Jeff Bevis is an up and coming photographer known for his ability to capture life stirring and socially conscious images. His artistry has been displayed in local galleries on Long Island, New York, in New York City and the Hamptons. His work has been featured nationally in; Denver, Colorado, Cleveland, Ohio and Hartford, Connecticut.
His work resonates a unique perspective and celebrates the versatility of photography.
Over the course of his life, Jeff has faced a host of adversities and persevered through every challenge. At the tender age of two Jeff was diagnosed with viral spinal meningitis at a time when there was few treatment of options and limited understanding of the disease. His parents explored every option and refused to accept the idea that their son would not be provided every opportunity. After multiple surgeries, therapy and treatments Jeff accepted that he would permanently remain in a wheel chair but it did not stifle his ambition. Jeff’s parents instilled an unwavering resilience in Jeff that allowed him to achieve what many professionals said would be impossible.
The philosophy that fuels Jeff's attitude and aspirations is:"Commit Your Heart and Your Mind and Anything is Possible."
Jeff received his first camera, a Brownie Box, when he was four and was quickly mesmerized by the power of photography. His first subject was his camping experience at Camp Pauquatuck where he and the camera were inseparable. Jeff went on to graduate from St. Charles Cerebral Palsy School and then mainstreamed to and graduated from James Wilson Young High School. He then set his sights on higher education earning his Associates from Suffolk County Community College in 1977 and then completing his Bachelor's in Communications from Long Island University, C.W. Post in 1980. He continued to nurture his love of photography and sharpen his skills throughout his studies and during his tenure as a Radio Operator for Suffolk County Department of Parks.
Today Jeff owns and operates Jeff Bevis Studios, a full service professional photography studio based in Blue Point, NY. In addition, he is the founder of Wheels in Motion, a community-based nonprofit focused on enhancing the lives of other members of the disabled community.
